If you want to import the demo content, you must skip the woocommerce setup on woocommerce activation

W3 Total Cache - A powerful cache plugin
WordPress SEO by Yoast - SEO plugin
WP Retina 2x - Retina image support.

Please note that we don't provide support for 3rd party plugins issues.

Importing content

First you must install all recommended plugin before importing your content.

On plugin activation, you will be asked if you want to create default pages.
Decline all if you want to import default content.

Importing demo data is the easiest way to setup your theme. It will allow you to quickly edit everything instead of creating content from scratch.

When you import the data following things will happen:

  • No existing posts, pages, categories, images, custom post types or any other data will be deleted or modified
  • Posts, pages, images, widgets and menus will be imported
  • Widgets will be imported only in empty sidebars
  • Images will be downloaded from our server
  • If you import the zip file several times, the content won't be duplicated
  • The imported content contains a lot of data. It may take up to 10 minutes or more depending on your server performance.

How to import content

In your theme package, you will find an export folder where the demos data are stored.

In each demo folder, you will find a zip file that will allow you to import content, settings, menus and widgets, all at once.

After uploading this zip file, your website should look exatcly like the demo.

  1. In your admin panel, go in Aku -> Import
  2. Once you are on the Aku importer page, click on "Browse" and locate your chosen zip file (
  3. Choose the options you want then hit the "Import" button
  4. It can take up to 10 minutes to import all the content. Please read the troubleshooting section below.

Upgrading the theme

When a new version of aku is released, you should see an update notification message in your admin panel. Here is how to update your theme to the lastest version.

  1. Download latest theme zip file from ThemeForest
  2. Extract it and locate
  3. Go in the admin "Aku" tab -> updates
  4. Upload the new zip file
  5. NAME

Can't use the zip file to upload the demo content

If you see an error message in the "Aku -> import" admin panel, it means that your server doesn't allow you to unzip a file automatically on your server. So you can't import the demo content using the provided zip file.

The first solution is to ask your hosting service provider to enable the "ZipArchive" PHP extension on your server.

The other workaround is to upload the 3 files contained in the archive separately.

  1. Install Wordpress Importer and Widget Data Importer plugins.
  2. Find the files you need to upload in the "content-data" folder. (e.g theme package -> export -> creative -> content-data )
  3. Upload the content.xml file vie the Wordpress importer panel (admin -> tools -> import)
  4. Upload the widgets.json file through the Widget importer panel ( admin -> tools -> widget settings import )
  5. Upload the options-export.txt file via the Aku -> theme options -> import tab
Can't save menu

Most servers have a limited number of fields that can be saved at the same time. When you import the demo content, which contains a lot of menu items, you might not be able to save changes you make to your menu (see this thread). You can fix this problem by following this tutorial. If it doesn't work, contact your hosting provider and asking them to add following lines to php.ini file.
max_input_vars = 9000

Error when importing demo content

The demo data contains a lot of post and medias.

If encounter issues when importing the demo content, this probably happens because of maximum execution time limit. You need to increase the maximum excution time (upload time) setting of your web server. Default maximum execution time on web servers is 30 seconds. Please increase it temporarily to 300 seconds. Possible ways of achieving this are:

  • Add set_time_limit(300); to your wp-config.php
  • Add php_value max_execution_time 300 in htaccess file
  • Create a php.ini file, paste max_execution_time = 300 in it and upload it in your wp-admin folder

If the solutions above don't work, contact your hosting provider.

Note that simply re-upload the file until all is imported should work as well. The content shouldn't be duplicated.

Set a featured image

A post featured image is an image that you can upload to represent your post.

Set a featured image is very simple: In your text editor, click on "set a featured image" (usually the box at the bottom right), upload an image and click on "use as featured image" instead of "insert into post".

Create a gallery

To create a gallery, first click on the "Add media" button at the top of your text editor.

When you open the Media Manager, you will be shown the files in your Media Library. If you’d like to create a gallery from those files, then you’re already where you need to be. Just click on "Create a gallery" on the left menu and select the files you’d like to include in your gallery. You can re-order you image as you wish, upload new files, add captions to your images etc...

Aku comes with additional options for your galleries. Take a look at the right of your media manager: you will find some advanced settings to set your gallery layout.

Create a slider

To create slider click on the "Add Slider" button at the top of your text editor.

Select the images to insert in your slider by clicking on your images while holding Ctrl/Cmd.

This Wordpress feature allows you to display a media by simply paste its URL in your post.

For exemple, simply paste a youtube video URL into your post. WordPress will automatically turn that into a YouTube embed.
